$10 Washer & Dryer Makeover

After years of staring at my plain white appliances, I got bored. And when I get bored, I get a little crazy. So I decided to paint them with one $10 pint of Rustoleum enamel paint in Regal Red. It took three coats over a weekend, but they look amazing! I followed it up with some spray on poly to help protect it. It's been nearly a year and no chips yet. I used a silver paint pen to add my settings. What I should have done there was placed tracing paper over the knob prongs and meticulously copied my settings, because I left a lot out. Then I could have added a vinyl transfer or used a fine tip paint pen. I may scrape off the paint around the dials and redo it later down the line. Otherwise it was a cheap and easy update! What a great idea! We have a washer and dryer that still work fine and I've been looking for an excuse to get new ones because I hate looking at them. This would be a much better idea. I might go some sort of funky pastel, kind of like those Kitchenaid retro-look mixers.

I did this too! I had all black appliances in the kitchen where my washer and dryer are (don't ask) any way, when I married my not so decor husband, the wife takes over. I even painted the floor black. Looks great!

For the laminate on the bedroom set, use Fusion spray paint for plastic - works wonders! I would lightly sand and clean really well.

I lightly sanded a set from the 30's and rubbed with thinned white ceiling paint then a coat of poly. It looked great!

Very cool! I wouldn't have the nerve or skill to do this, but I like it.

I would love to do this with our washer/dryer. The paint is scratched and the metal showing through looks bad. They were used when we got them, yet they work. Would you recommend doing anything differently due to the scratches? Please email me your comment along with commenting here so that I do not miss it. Thank you.

Brooke N WOW this is just an amazing transformation! You really got this place looking beautiful! I'm clipping, cause even though I don't need to repaint the appliances, other HT's are often looking for a solution...LOL! Also, WHERE did you find the OWL pitcher? I saw it on the shelf and was crazy about it.... the other fiesta ware...I have one just like it...LOL

i am enchanted by the faux capiz shells. I am going to find a punch and get started. I think they will be spectacular on my dining room windows for the summer.

    thanks for the idea

It would cost more but I think automotive paint would work good also and it's got sparkle.

My dryer is very old! O.K. it's ancient! But my husband is a maintenance man and when something breaks down, he fixes it! It may look old on the outside but inside it practically new. This is such a great idea! Love the color too!!! May just tackle this one!

was this done with spray paint, or from a can ? Did you spray in the house ? I've thought of doing this for years, but don't have the strength to drag them outdoors to spray paint ! I might use the retro green/blue myself !
