Need help about flooring. I have a wonderful 'vintage' mobile home. Can I use mosaic ceramic tile in my laundry room? How ceramic tile in any other room? Has anyone tried the new 2 sided tape for tile?

  • You can use almost any kind of tiles, but you need to think about several things. There are floor tiles, and wall tiles. The wall tiles tend to be more shiny thus slippery. Floor tiles can be shiny, but they do have a bit of texture to them to keep them from getting slick if and when they get wet. The tape type tiles are simply used for walls. While they may work on the floor, I would not suggest that. Particularly if your using them in a wet area. Moisture can seep through the grout which is not a good mix for a paper tape system. Lastly, while a mosaic wall might look cool, it will become a nightmare on a floor. Lots of grout to keep clean, and any slight movement of the floor which in any mobile home has, the grout will continue to become loose and require constant update work. Use a good quality 8 or 12 inch tile and you will be happy with the results and will be even more happy in a few years that you do not have to tear it up again and start over. Just remember mobile homes although are somewhat alike to stick built homes, They are different. And depending upon the age, manufacture and style these homes can produce unique challenges to the materials that stick built home folks simply do not have. There is often more flex in these homes because of the movement that occurs during the construction and placement of the home to withstand damage.

I used one of the mosaic tile kits in my entry. So far no trouble at all. I used adhesive and grout and sealed it. This might be before the finished look, but it turned out great.
