Squirrels are stealing my tomatoes

First time gardener here, so please excuse my not knowing. We planted a few tomato plants in our garden this year and they have produced beautifully. We only ate one tomato from these plants because the squirrels have been taking what they can, when they can. What can I do to prevent them from taking what we have left for the season?
Next season I plan to build a bigger and better cage for the tomatoes, but imagine these little thieves will be back for more.

We have had good success using deer fencing. This year we saved our corn building a frame around it and covering it with deer fence. It looks like a giant display case, but it made all the difference. You have to leave a way to get into it, but it kept the squirrels out.

@Olivia Brady this is so similar to what i was thinking about doing, but didn't want to go through all the effort and the little buzzards could still get in. Im glad to hear it worked for you!! I may have to move forward with this. Thanks!!

I was always told they were looking for water. Try to put a bowl of water out there and see if that helps.

Never heard of squirrels eating tomatoes... and I've had a garden for years... lol. Silly squirrels..

It is crazy. They take one, take a bite, and sometimes drop it. I've watched a few run out of the yard with a small tomato in tow. :(

@Heather I have been a gardener for years and used fencing, human hair, pie- plates you name it. But then I tried something new, I got Christmas ribbon and tied it to the posts on the 4 corners of my garden, it blows in the wind and makes rustling sound. Nothing bothered the garden after I did that. Seems that subtle sound and movement discourages the little guys. I had a serious rabbit, mole, deer and squirrel problem but after the ribbon no problem. :)

@Lee Cunningham Green This sounds like the easiest approach. My friend has an apricot tree - his favourite fruit. In all these years, he has had only one apricot because the squirrels get them. Has tried everything. Am going to suggest this.

I think they are after the seeds in the tomatoes.
