Good reminder ...especially with so many putting up smaller potting sheds and such. it has been a minor inconvenience but I have had actual plants taken from my yard-left with only a hole in the ground! Such is today's world.

Hi Dee - Yes, thieves now will target anything. Here's a tip - I really like the idea of either buying or making some flimsy trellis work. It wants to be 2-3 feet high. Attach this to the top of your garden fencing all the way around. You can plant it up with some nice Jasmine, Honeysuckle or Clematis.

OK, you're thinking I haven't been taking my meds LOL. Think of it like this - a Garden Fence ...»

by it's very nature is sturdy and therefore gives a would-be burglar something easy to climb over. With the flimsy trellis work it's likely, once it's touched, the burglar will give up as they know there is a chance of causing injury to themselves. This for me is a highly effective way to keep intruders out of your garden and it's cheap.

Was picturing my bungling burglar as I read your post...funny. Currently I don't even have a gaden or yard fence-may think about it if it gets worse. Thanks for the idea, and the laugh!

I have a pretty good garden security system in place, it doubles as my deer deterent. Though I find, ther are not many thieves in my garden until the veggies begin to rippen.

Hi Phil - sure when it comes to the veg, there's lots of interest from the wildlife, such as Rabbits and Deer. If it helps we do have a number of guides on controlling garden pests, such as deer and rabbits, all of which does not involve harming them. Here's the section if that helps - http://hometipster.com/category/gardening/ga.... Have a great day. Graham
