What can I do to keep the wall below my breakfast bar from getting all scuffed up?

When people sit at the breakfast bar their shoes scuff the drywall and I am constantly scrubbing it until I have scrubbed the paint right off. Any suggestions that would keep this area from getting all scuffed up. I know I am OCD!!

Have you seen those brass "toe kicks" for the bottom of doors?...if the kick zone is not too wide those could be used stock. If you need more protection a larger piece would be needed. Depending on the decor of your home any type of sheet metal could be used...from rustic corrugated galvanized roofing to chrome plated diamond plate for a industrial modern look.

You can by perplex sheeting and cut this down to size. It's pretty easy to keep clean as well. Over time it will scuff, but it's easy enough to replace. I have to say that KMS Woodworks did give some excellent ideas.
  • Why not purchase a large thick plastic panel? They come clear like glass, so you simply paint before you install. The plastic will resist cracking and it can be cleaned off easy. Or like KMS said you can install any type of toe kick plate to prevent the damage also.

Lynn, were you able to find plastic sheeting for this use? If so, how did you attach it?

You could use the stick on carpet squares and cover it; make a design with them if you wish, etc. You could go to a carpet store and get a small remnant and glue it to the front of your bar. Both ideas would help prevent damage to your bar. Have fun decorating!

I have same issue. I was thinking of painting it with black chalkboard paint. Same with my backsplash area which we never tiled. Any thoughts?

They sell kick plates for doors why not a long version of a kick plate? You could spray paint the plate if you don't like the color it comes in.

Hi Lynn: I certainly understand your problem. You can get some plexiglass cut to size, it comes in different thicknesses and sizes. Plexiglass - Glass & Plastic Sheets - The Home Depot Then, drill holes in the corners and attach it to the wall with decorative clips. Here are some from Home Depot: Search Results for mirror mounting clips at The Home Depot
