Help finding the perfect tan paint color

Marie
by Marie
What is the perfect tan for a darker room? I want it to be warm yet not have a pink or grey hue. It needs to look good as a primitive country backdrop. The dark room really makes colors look grey so what undertones do I need to fix this?

I used Dapper Tan by Glidden in my previous living room and loved it! The perfect tan, no undertones, very warm. http://www.glidden.com/search/results.do?q=dapper+tan

Sand Dollar. If I remember correctly, it's Benjamin Moore paint, but if you ask Home Depot paint dept. I believe they will mix it with any of their paints. I used it several times in the past. It doesn't pick up any specific colors so it looks great with everything.

My favorite tan ever is Ralph Lauren's "Cottonwood". It was perfect for my kitchen but became too dark for the den. I went with Bher's "Baked Scone" and it is perfect. I love it!

I was headed there too! Ralph Lauren makes the best camels. That's what I would pick. Tans can be peachy, powdery and drab, especially with limited light. I'm not telling you anything new I love a richer, more saturated color when lighting is an issue. . Camel is lush, warm, and soohisticated but as casual and homey as anyone could want. If you have northern light, you get to know these hues well.

I just purchased "Gentle Fawn" D122 in Satin from True Value. I'm painting our large (15X 20) MBR that has four windows. It's the only one I found that looks good in all light and will not look dusty.

Look for a greige such as Benjamin Moore Grant Beige. No pinky or yellow undertones. Remember your lighting will affect any color you choose. So will other things in your room....and even things outside your window. You can affect a paint color by the bulbs you use in your fixtures, other natural light, items in the room that'll 'throw off' subliminal colors. So what to do? Narrow the field to about 3 or 4 colors you think you like based on the paint chips. Go buy a big foam board (or several) and paint each sample color separately on them. At several different times of the day, in different lighting, hold up your color boards on the walls you're going to paint. You'll more easily narrow the field of choices. :-) Still not sure.....hire a color consultant. As much as we all want to assist you via a website, our monitors will show color differently and we cannot be absolutely sure which color will work best "in" your home :-)

I have used Valspar Laura Ashley series of "Sand 3 and Sand4" shades. They are absolutely beautiful. When the sun comes in the windows, it lights up the walls to a beautiful gold. The sunsets are as beautiful inside as they are outside! Suede or leather are also good colors for non-pinky hues....

I've been through the same thing so I think you'll love Sherwin Williams Kilim Beige. It's perfection!

Try using a color match app - all of the major paint companies have them. You just take a photo and then download it to the app- the paint company will ID the color and then offer complementary colors to choose from to complete the palette. So, I would try taking a photo of that little red chest, or the rug, or some other element in the room, then see what they offer as a color choice for the neutral to go with it.

Our problem was that we have those 36" height windows which does not let in much light...which in a way I love because they are also more private. Somehow a wall of glass does not appeal to me. But when we put in new windows, we had them extend the height of our double den window to 53"...it is FABULOUS!!!! I had the best window people EVER! I could not even tell they had worked on the place...even with cutting down brick and the inside wall...and then installing a new window with new molding!

But I would still pick the "Baked Scone" color by Bher!
