Mudroom ‪#‎Entryway Renovation - From No Function to Dream Entryway

The Summer kitchen was a wide open room with no heat, no insulation and no function. Before moving into our 1854 farm house I had no idea what a summer kitchen was. I certainly would have never guessed that it was considered a luxury if a home had a summer kitchen.
Back in the day, all this wide open room had going for it was the fact that the cooking and food preparation was all done there. This saved the main house from heating up in the hot summer months and also kept the house clean, any “messy” chores were done there, cooking, baking, laundry etc. When it was time for meals to be served, the hot prepared food came out of a room, all chaos was left behind and dinner was served to a calm and cool peaceful house. Doesn’t sound very luxurious does it? At least not luxurious in that tiny room.
This is the story of how we decided to make this into our dream mudroom. With built-ins and organization potential that one can only dream of. Welcome to our mudroom renovation.
Eeek, a huge opening in the side of our house! This is where our new french patio doors will be... still to have a huge hole like this in your home is disturbing. I came home from work to this, my Hubs and his friend Brandon (pictured) thought my reaction was funny.
We had to completely re-insulate and vapor barrier the whole room... huge learning curve for us, but if I do say so my self we did a great job... it turned into a cozy and beautiful mudroom.
So much caulking and a lot of white... what have we gotten our selves into?
Many, many hours of caulking and painting and caulking and painting.
This is the finished entryway, it now has tons of storage and the best part? The reaction this room gets when people first enter was always a huge pat on the back for us.
French patio doors let in all of the beautiful sunshine... this room is so welcoming, the heart of the home is usually the kitchen...this became the new heart of the home.
Thanks for popping in for a visit, I hope you are charmed by this mudroom entryway like we are.

This is inspirational, but with a twist. Thank you.

Hmm, that looks like a bed in your mud room. For late nights I guess. 😂
