Can I change the color of my front door hardware?

Question

Please be specific as I am a beginner.  I want to change two handles from antique brass to black.  Thanks for your ideas.

Many opt to use spray paint on door hardware, but be careful not to plug up or block the screw areas or key slots. TIP: Use WD-40 if you find screws or keys stick. -- This helps remove dirt and other debris.

Yes! you sure can!! First, remove the hardware from the door. Clean it with soap and water and then wipe down with a liquid deglosser. You may even want to prime the hardware, too. It would help the new paint adhere. Once you have done all the prep work go ahead and use a good quality spray paint in your choice of glossy or matte finish. Two coats should do it. When that is dry you should consider an exterior quality sealer coat to protect your new finish. It's always worth the extra time and effort to get it done right the first time! Hope this helps!
