Rejuvenating a sisal rug

I have a sisal rug that has ugly water stains on it. Will anything take them out, or can I paint it? It is in excellent condition.

Have you tried to remove the stains. They can be treated and lightly scrubbed - perhaps treat with something like oxyclean spray, light scrub then hose it down to rinse and dry in the sun. Painting is your other option as @Hannah V has suggested.
