Paint will not adhere to Formica very well so you need to use a primer first, like Bin (Home Depot).

There''s a primer and paint at Home Depot called Zimmers, it claims to adhere to even laminate. I bought some for a laminate dresser and have already tried it on some small things and it works. Not expensive either.
