How do I attach hand casts to a frame

I have casts of my children's hands from when they were little that I would like to frame. I would guess they are made out of paster of some sort. How would I affix them to a shadow box frame?

If the fingers are separated, would it not be possible to use cable ties around the fingers, and then thread them through holes at the back of the frame? It would help enormously if you posted a photograph so that we can see exactly what they look like.

Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas.

Hi Sarah - Thanks for the photographs - what a wonderful memory to have! Looking at them, I would not recommend that you try to hang them, as I would be afraid that they would fall and break, no matter how good the system is for attaching them. I have another idea, and that is to make a shadow-box type of coffee table. You would then be able to have the room to add things like a Christening gown or a pair of early shoes, or even some drawings, and could change it around as and when the mood takes you. There was a beautiful one posted on Hometalk, - here is the link: Whatever you decide to do, please add another post. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/-155828

@Valerie I like this idea a lot!! Those handprints look heavy and this would be the safest way to display them.

Another thought - You could even use an ordinary picture frame as the top of a memory box, and just have a box made for the bottom.

@Sarah Kmetz Hi Sarah What I meant was that, if you made a very simple box structure (just the four sides and a base) you could make it so that it is the same size as a frame, and then just attach it to the box using piano hinges. (so that you can open and close it)

That is a neat idea. I had not thought of it!! Thank you for the help.

Is it the whole round shape? Would a cross stitch frame work? The wooden frames with a screw on the top to adjust to the correct size...

they are all round but I don't know it the cross stitch frame would work or not! I could certainly try that! I definitely hadn't thought about that option!!

I think I would use a glue on plate hanger to the back of them. You can find them at the hardware store. Then I would take the frame and (using only the wooden frame part) place on the wall that you want them to go on then outline the inside diameter of the frame on the wall with a light pencil mark or chalk pencil. I would then paint a background color inside the pencil mark. Now all you have to do is put the frame on the wall and then add the handprints. I forgot to mention that you should use a two part epoxy to glue the plate hanger on the back and follow the directions on drying time. Make sure it will hold the weight of the handprints.
