Faux Pallet Fireplace

I had a odd corner in my living room, and a return air vent that was a bruise to look at so i decided to cover it up and give myself something i always wanted, ... a place to hang my stockings at christmas time.
The frame of the fireplace is 1- 2x4 1- 4x4, using wood what i had on hand. the base is used of chip board and 1-2x4 to give it a strong and secure platform. I used 1x4's screwed into the walls and then attached my fireplace to the 1x4's to make it solid. the mantle is a 2x4 so that way its thicker and gives it a hearty look to the top. Inside the fireplace I spray painted the walls with a hammered spray paint (i have an extra can in the garage) and sprayed the walls to give it the smoke and ash look, then i took a black metal basket, a branch (cut into sections), raffia, and some christmas lights to use as my faux fire. This project is only cost me the amount that i need for stain so about 10.00 and i got a beautiful addition to my house.

For my home, all I'd do different is to paint the wood. I wouldn't be able to attach to wall so the base would have to be larger to stand alone. Thanks
