Radio Cabinet to Martini Bar DIY

This cabinet sparked an instant idea to create a 1950s martini bar that would make the cast of Mad Men proud! A 1950 Philco radio cabinet with the radio guts missing was the perfect way to see this vision through. I know that there are many folks who don't agree with painting wood furniture and there are some pieces that can remain in that fashion, but this piece begged to be painted my favorite color - a minty, teal green. Check out my blog for the full details.
The final product keeps the main elements of the cabinet intact - the radio face, hardware, and large speaker box below were left as they came.
The "guts" of this radio were ripped out and deemed broken by a professional. The first step to modifying this cabinet to bar piece included adding a back made from plywood and taping off the speaker and radio face before priming the entire piece.
The color of the cabinet is courtesy of Valspar - it's called "Rainforest Mist". The interior of the cabinet was painted using Valspar's "Paparazzi" white. I used Minwax Polycrylic gloss as the sealer after the paint was complete.
I used Gorilla Glue to add a glass rack made from T-bar.
And because I couldn't let other accessories go to waste, the instruction booklet was used to make coasters.
The radio knobs and pieces from the old antennae...
I created drink picks!
I love the combination of teal and gold with the bold hardware!
