Saving my succulents in winter

I planted a semi large area with assorted succulents this summer how can i save them from the harsh winter? I live in N.Calif. but it still gets quite cold and below freezing at times times. Thank you!

    Do you know what type you planted? Many succulents will easily tolerate a freeze. Hen and chicks (Sempervivum species), for example, is regarded as being hardy to zone 3.
