Studio Apartment Living Room Update

We are a dumpster divers living in a studio apartment, so it was inevitable - we've outgrown our space. Unfortunately, it will be several months before our iron-clad lease is up. We can't bear to part with furniture, so we're moving it around and attempting to lighten up the space.

    Don't make me love this! I'm downsizing and don't want to know that I can go back to the way I used to live (and love!)

    I'm not sure I could live with all of the busy-ness... You have alot of nice things in a small space but I would always feel that I had to neaten and tidy things up whenever I walked in to this room. Apartment living would probably not be for me :S

    this place would drive me absolutely batty! too much clutter, too much going on, i'd be ready to strangle someone after an hour of being in that room. there is nothing relaxing or remotely serene about it!

    Good for you -- but the busy-ness would make me feel claustrophobic. I've got a 400 sq ft studio -- I'll have to post pics here sometime soon.

    i love it. maybe it's not ideal, but don't forget that you're moving soon. don't listen to anyone who doesn't understand that. of course you can't part with any of your fabulous "finds". keep them all, and keep repeating to yourself "it's only temporary"! i live in a very small apt. too-also with lots of great junk. Your place doesn't seem at all cluttered to me. ;)

    Good job, I love it! People that have HUGE spaces drive me nuts. Don't they know that there are Lots of folks that don't have money nor those that don't want to spend money on spaces that you never use! The great thing about dumpster diving is if you get tired of it or don't want it anymore, no big loss or you can sell it for cheaps to someone that can love it too. Looks like you are really good at diving!

    Whoa, thank you so much everyone for checking out our living room!

    @The Space Between and Thistle W, you sure know how to make a gal's day!

    @KMS Woodworks, definitely appreciate your POV on the key of living small and know it works for most! But for us the key is to surround yourself with the things we love! To each his own, right?!

    @Marg C, you are right about always needing to tidy up! A small mess in a small space = a big ...»

    mess! But we tend to see the positive side of things and love that our space keeps us motivated to keep it tidy!

    @BettyW! You are right - no bedroom or closet in these photos. These are just shots of our living room. We have a (small) bedroom with a closet too. Thank goodness, right? :)

    @EclecVintage, THANK YOU!

    @Michelle B - Between your comment here and the one on the Hometalk Facebook page, we get it! You don't like our space! Or our "crap" as you called it on Facebook! While it's relaxing and serene for us, we understand that our style isn't for everyone, and we love it that everyone has a unique personal style! We hope yours makes you very happy! But please stay far, far away! We don't need any strangling going on in our home. Our apartment is full of many things, most of all love!

    @Gail B, we can't wait to see your photos!

    @Patricia S, excellent advice! Thank you!

    @Claudia A, we couldn't agree more!

    You did an outstanding job! I think it looks very "collected" and comfortable, not "cluttered!"

    Meredith...I guess you missed my tongue in check joke about your own Tetris comment from your blog. Your space is fab...and being filled with all of the things you love makes it even better. I just got up from my workshop and if you compared the two spaces you would win hands down. Again my shop is filled with the things I love ( and the the tools I use)...add in many 100's of pieces of scrap lumber and I'm guilty as charged ..LOL ...»

    I was just thinking about a recent article I wrote about a couple who down sized to less than 200 sq feet.

    http://www.networx.com/article/the-art-of-ti...

    and some of my own challenges in our 200 sq cabin.

    I think it's great! I, too, can't pass up a good piece of furniture on the side of the road and I have a lot of "stuff" that will someday has more space but for now I measure my available space in inches!!

    I think it's perfect as is. You have the essentials and room to walk around everything. You have made good use of the small space and made it attractive too. The grouping of pictures and signs is wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
