How a mushroom led to a master balcony remodel

From the first time I saw my house, I knew I wanted to remodel the master balcony. In the summer of 2011 that dream came true... with a little help from a mushroom...
With a view like this from the master balcony...
...it was a crime that the balcony looked like this: tiny and uninviting. As a result, we barely used it.
And that's why we never noticed that it was starting to rot (as in, there was a giant mushroom growing out of the wood.)
So we tore down the small, wooden balcony...
...and put up a larger one...
...which we eventually covered in concrete and stucco.
As a bonus (a HUGE bonus) we got an "outdoor room" below.
We put up a tongue-in-groove ceiling, lights and a fan.
We also added outdoor blinds.
Eventually we added new furniture.
It's extremely comfortable.
The upstairs is comfortable as well.
And now we we enjoy our view almost every day. (All thanks to a mushroom!)
