Birdhouse Makeover

Even the birds thought their birdbath was an eyesore. So with a thin layer of concrete, some non-toxic white spray paint and some old plates I created a beautiful place for the birds and for others to look at. For more on this project visit my blog at http://topthistopthat.blogspot.com/2012/07/b...

Definitely would like to know how you did it. I have some extra blue pool tiles that would look great.

Question: I have been painting some built in cabinets in my family room, there is a large ledge area that worries me. I am not sure paint will take the wear and tear over a long time. Since I am doing this all myself with beginner abilities I need some suggestions on how to best surface this area.

I have a "well" type birdbath, in contrast to the "saucer" type you show-wonder if this would help create a more shallow as well as attractive bathing area for my little guys.

I pulled this information that may be helpful for people choosing a paint for their birdbath

acrylic latex paint is safe for birdhouses because it has a water base. While plain latex paint is well-suited for interior environments, it may not provide adequate durability on exterior birdhouses, which are exposed to weather and ultraviolet ray, let the acrylic latex finish cure for two weeks. ...»

acrylic enamel has a water base; however, enamels are far more durable than acrylic latex paint. Acrylic enamels dry with a glossy sheen that makes them resistant to stains and friction-based abrasion. An acrylic enamel will provide the most enduring finish to your birdhouse and won't repel birds. Be sure to let the enamel cure for two weeks to be on the safe side.
