In my hallway I need storage I don't have a linen closet. So Id like to build like floor to ceiling(almost ceilings not level) 2x2 cubes . To cost little without looking cheap. In white

Finding shallow cubes--to fit in a narrow hallway yet provide decent storage---I found them finally at LOWES. I bought a 3x3 cube unit that is shallow enough to get past but deep enough to stash lots of things in--I use mine for storing the items I sell on eBay so they have to be versatile! I then used boxes that fit and covered them with cloth for a unified look on the shelves where I had smaller things that might roll or fall out. They come in several colors but the one I got is white and cost maybe $30 or so--If you go higher than the one unit I would invest in a piece of thin plywood for the back and sub this in for the cardboard backer they come with--this adds strength and allows you to bolt the plywood to the wall to increase security. @ FOOT by 2 FOOT cubes might sound like a good size but I would urge you to find or make up some cardboard boxes of that size and try them first---that is actually pretty big , You can also use the ends for storage---IKEA has some wooden shallow "spice rack" sort of shelves that you can attach on the ends for bottles etc and paint or stain. I just measured my cube night stand which is a good size--and that is only 18" x 18"---I would not go much bigger as the whole thing might be unstable. Walmart sells a BHG unit (not sure what color they come in I have dark ones) that are a bit larger but also deeper and more spendy. I liked the LOWES one as it is actually more solid. For either of these they sell the fabric cubes that fit inside but they can easily cost MORE than the units themselves! There are many Pinterest posts on how to cheaply do custom bins for these. You could also try the taller bookcases that you put together from LOWES; WM Target and K Mart---they can hold a LOT and are tall and can be fitted with bins etc for all sorts of storage.

you can get cheap but decent white shelving units at Walmart on line, add the verticals if you want for cubbies and buy the fabric cubes...install them on a 2 x 4 wood frame base and add base trim and crown mold to make them all dressed up like furniture. Look for wood trim outlet stores for cheaper trim. Good luck and enjoy your project whatever you do!
