I have an old mirror which I believe came out of an OLD projector screen TV. Ya know, the ones that weight 1000 lbs!! its an odd shaped piece, my husband doesnt have a cutter so Im am trying to figure out what I can do with it. Not sure if I should break it up into tiny pieces and use it for mosiacs or what? Anyone with ideas?

I assume that it is flat - if so, using it to make a mosaic would be a great idea. There are plenty of inspiring examples on Hometalk. Another possibility would be to use it on a table or dressing table. I would make inquiries as to whether or not you could have it cut to size at your local glass shop. I would also think of hanging it in the garden - it will give the illusion that the garden is a lot larger than it actually is.

Youmcan take it to some place like Lowes and they will cut it for you to fit anything you need. We had one over our dining room table...I took it back and had it re cut. To fit my new table.

A photo or at least a better description and dimensions would help Sheree.
  • You need to be careful when cutting older glass. As it ages it becomes more brittle and can easily shatter when trying to cut it. Use care if you decide to attempt that. Make sure your using a good lubricant with the glass cutter. Ideally Kerosene works best. A small brush with it on it run along the glass where your cutting along with dipping the cutter in the solution will keep the cut cool and make for a much better cut.

I have seen a mirror used as a frozen lake in a winter scene. Could put Christmas trees on its perimeter, etc. Do heed the safety warnings above. If you are able to cut it, you could frame the pieces and then put up many arranging them on the wall.

Spending on its size I would use it on a garden wall. Or make a garden wall for it. Mirrors are lovely in gardens.

That should be depending on its ... iPad issues, too!
