REPURPOSING LITTLE GIRL'S BOOTS (and rubber kitchen gloves :)

Had hunny drill holes in bottom of boots for drainage. Stuffed toes w/plastic shopping bags, Cut the fingers off leaky kitchen gloves (glad I had PINK) Tied bottom of gloves w/cable tie. Filled w/potting soil and dug up a couple of Impatiens that came up all by themselves from last year's flowers & plunked them in the boots. (glad they were Pink too) WOH LAH!!

@Susan-why did you use the gloves as a liner, or even think you would need one?

Ssssssigh ;~) I just knew eventually somebody would ask that!! First, to cut down on the amount of potting soil I'd have to use. I would end up with a ton ot it settling down into the toe area and then when it did settle my flowers would be down at the heel!!

Also, by putting it in a liner of sorts, when the flowers die out it's a lot easier to just pull out the glove!! Try it, you'll like it! XOXO ...»

Oh, I forgot to tell you all that "hunny" did drill holes in the bottom of the boots for drainage and I used a cable tie to close the bottom of the gloves - cut the fingers off first!! And no gloves were hurt in this repurposing because they now have a new life and I have a use for my 15+ right hand gloves w/a hole in it somewhere!!

Ok, I didn't get that part either...I must be dense or something--maybe the heat. Anyway now I understand- BUT,did you poke holes in the gloves for drainage too, or were they just tied kinda loosely?

My apologies - you didn't miss a thing! I didn't give any specifics - I figured I'd just wait and see what kind of questions popped up. The "sigh" part - I didn't mean to sound sarcastic and hope I didn't offend. With the fingers cut off, I gathered the bottom and just scrunched it together, The cable tie is pretty tight but because of the thickness of the gloves the water has plenty of room to escape but no soil seeps out.

I have my daughter's tiny pair of PINK cowGIRL boots I'm going to try this project with! They have been on the window ledge at the front entrance with some (fake) Bluebonnets in them for far too long!

LOVE!!~ My friend gave me her sons rubber boots with the intention of my son using them. That never happened so what I did was spray paint them my favorite color and stencil them. They are sooooo cute now. I put some flowers in them as well.

AWWW - I'm so glad your twins like the boots!! They look so much better now that the flowers have filled out and gotten fuller. Another girl on HT also did a pair of boots - they were brown w/polka dots. Her name is Julee from Bangor, Michigan. See if you can find her post too - they're really cute too!!

Thank you Sheryl - yeah I just happened to see a couple of Impatients tucked in behind a shrub and thought they deserved the chance to "shine" and hidden behind the other bush they wouldn't get enough sun to grow very big. You should see them in their little boots now!!

Normi - the rubber gloves were just as a liner so all the dirt wouldn't keep settling so far down in the boot.
