House trim color

My house is a chocolate brown wood house with a red tin roof. I want to paint the trim of the house a different color. What do you suggest? Also, the house sides and back are surrounded by woods.

A beautiful warm cream color would really set off both the color of the home and the roof and lighten the look. You could even add the red color from your roof to a few accents on the home (the door maybe?) to pull the look together. It's amazing what a crisp trim color can do to change the look of a home!

What style house do you have? I agree a warm, light color. I was playing around with SW Color Visualizer https://www.sherwin-williams.com/visualizer/# and while I couldn't find a exterior with a red roof, I like the SW6001 Grayish for trim with the chocolate brown. I personally am not a fan of the yellowish undertones with brown, but I know they are very popular. What is your style? Are you comfortable with bright colors or prefer softer, more subtle colors? In the end, I think you should go with what you like. If you like brighter colors, perhaps accepting front door, pots, lawn art, chairs, etc in a bright color will help with the darkness of house color and surrounding woods.

I tried to use the visualizer but I can't put my red roof on so it is hard to visualize.

I agree with Wren, and Jen a lite color would look best. I really like the bright red on roof

You can upload your own photo too, not sure if you saw that option. LOVE the porch and red roof. Are you planning on painting the wood on the porch a lighter color? I think that will really brighten the area and help it stand out. If you don't like bright colors, even painting your front door a soft blue color would brighten the porch. I was looking for some online photo ideas, but couldn't find any however I found this at http://www.exterior-house-paint-colors.com/roof-color.html. Red Roof- make less of this very assertive color roof by putting more red with it. Believe it or not, putting a contrasting color with the red will only make it look more like what it is. Especially bad would be any sort of gray. Because of the laws of optics, the gray will assume the compliment of the red resulting in a Christmas tree palette…not good unless your last name is Claus. Try some rich and deep red-browns here. So maybe my original suggestion of gray is not helpful. So maybe a white with red undertones for trim?!? Good luck.

@Snow B, I know most don't want a Christmas tree colored home, but with the main color of your home being brown I don't see that happen. With that being said, I'd paint the trim a deep complementary green. I tried to do a virtual, but I have an injured arm and wrist so it started to ache as soon as I started changing your posts to green so I stopped after the second one in hopes that it would give you enough of an idea of what it would look like. Considering your home is surrounded by trees I felt it important to keep with colors from your surroundings. I'll try and do more tomorrow to show more of my idea, but for now this is all I better do. I'm not suppose to be using the arm at all. Typing is even uncomfortable.
