Rebuild of section of timber wall is complete.

Demolition of rest of timber wall and three sections of pool deck is in progress. Renovation is necessary because of poor construction on timber wall including lack of drainage. Because improper fill dirt was also used, there was inadequate compaction of soil. Sections of pool deck were also poured as much as ten inches thick in some spots! This created addional stress on wall and everything combined was causing pool deck to shift away from the pool shell. There's more to come!

Yes, much drama. That's why they big boys are involved.

How long had the original been in place, and how long did it take to show the stress?

The timber wall was 15 years old but with no drainage and the weight of the pool deck I began to notice issues two to three years ago. I'm convinced it would have lasted much longer with proper construction.

Wow, all that work so close to the pool. Scary!

What type of timber did they use? Was the concrete slab poured as an after thought or was it part of the original installation? Was it two different contractors not knowing what each other was doing?

Was it rotted or just pushed out from the weight? Sorry I am bugging you asking all these questions, we construct retaining walls(and sub out concrete) and I am always about finding out what makes things go wrong.

Getting that mini-ex in there sure is a big help...moving out that much debris by hand would really suck.

The contractor has done a great job of thinking this one through. No fear on my end. The first time the right hand didn't communicate with the left hand, so to speak. I'm confident things are going to work out well this time.
