Beadboard Wallpaper

For those of you who haven't discovered beadboard wallpaper, let me introduce you! I discovered it 3 years ago (Graham Brown UK version) and haven't stopped using it yet. From bathroom renos, to ends of kitchen cabinets, to inset door panels in furniture, there are tons of use for beadboard wallpaper. I loved it so much I started selling it in my online shop, off my blog, Southern Hospitality. Here's a link to a bathroom project using it: http://southernhospitalityblog.com/beadboar...

This is crazy good! I love using anaglypta paper to mimic a tin ceiling or wall so I suspect I would LOVE this little money and time saver. I see you are also in Kennesaw. Did you get the paper locally?

Oh Rhoda, I love beadboard wallpaper too! I've used it in my kitchen as a back splash and have regretted struggling with real beadboard in my guest bathroom ever since! This stuff is tough and completely genius! I was on the fence about putting it in my master bath 'toilet room' but I think you've just settled my mind. Thank you!

Paper! Wow! We redid our small bathroom about a year ago and used real beadboard because the wells were distressed from wallpaper removal -- actually 4th removal in 41 years. Then we painted the top of the wall with texture paint. I Love it! You did a great job!

It's looks beautiful, but I'm sorry, I hate wallpaper and its removal. I would rather install real beadboard.

Yep, you made a believer of me, Rhoda. Used it on my kitchen island and on the ends of the kitchen cab's.

    Gail, beadboard wainscoting.

I live near you & have real beadboard in 2 baths and want to put even more in our next home. I like it white. How close to the real beadboard does this actually look in person? Can one get it locally? Wallpaper has gotten so pricey. How much do you save, percentage wise, using the faux paper? Thx!

HI, Michela, I think it totally looks real in person. You have to touch it closely to realize it is not the real thing & everyone that sees it says the same thing. At $25 a roll, you can do a small bathroom with one roll, so to me it is quite cost effective. Cutting sheets of beadboard is a lot of work and I'm getting ready to use it in my new house too. I sell it in my online shop here, if you are interested in ordering & it is Graham Brown from the UK version. ...»

Love the look! We have used it in the past and it lasts a long time. Would not recommend it in areas where it can be brushed up against frequently as the paint can come off...but, keep a can of touch up around and it works just fine!

Rhoda I wish I had known about this when we remodeled our island! We cut the real stuff, which was a pain because we has awkward angles and sizes. I'll definitely be using this in the future!

Gail C, beadboard is a thin sheet of paneling type composite board like plyboard that is double grooved about every 2 inches. Very smooth on the top side for painting. You usually see it painted white. see photo....
    • Beadboard on bottom, texture paint on top.

Are there different qualities to be aware of?

Jean, I prefer the Graham Brown version, from England. It's thick and pre-pasted and goes up really easy. There are other versions which are not as thick and don't look as real.

Rhoda, I'm so excited to see your post here about the Graham Brown beadboard wallpaper! I found your excellent, detailed tutorial on your website 2.5 or 3 years ago. What a difference the wallpaper made on "lovely" mobile home cabinets! We primed the cabinets, added the wallpaper to the door inset, painted and then stained them to create a "primitive" look. It also worked wonderfully on four doors that had a "stained glass mirror" effect.....don't ask LOL! This is a wonderful product. ...»
Thank you for bringing awareness to it. What a difference it made in our little home in the woods!

I used to work in a wallpaper store, and there are really some that look more realistic than others. You do get what you pay for! We put up a display of one brand, then later another brand. When it came time to change the displays, the expanded vinyl paper was almost impossible to remove. (Guess who was taking it down-yep! ) I spent the better part of 3 days removing two strips - and I'm a very patient person. But the look of it is worth the work after all is said and done. I'm ...»
considering it for my kitchen island. I want beadboard, but don't want to deal with cutting it and trimming it!
