I desperately need a "Holmes on Homes"!

I attempted a couple of renovations to my bathroom, kitchen and back porch while I was recuperating from surgery and living away from home. My "dream" home plan turned into a "nightmare"! That said, does anyone know of any organization that can help an elderly and disabled woman to help correct some of the missteps, including the electricity?

Andra, I hope you find assistance. You may be able to find legal assistance through the legal aid society. legalaiddc.org If they can't help you they may direct you to places for help. Hopefully you have a written contract and have documented the problems with photos that clearly show the problems and communications, documentation and evidence.

I enjoy Holmes on Homes and hope you find on DC version. Let us all know if you do. I hope ...»

Hi Andra, I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. I'll assume the workmanship turned out to be less than desirable and probably more expensive than you wanted to boot! There is a lady, Stephanie L. Hecht, who runs a personal help service and may be able to assist you in finding some relief. Her business is finding qualified people to help people just like you to get things they need done! It's called the "Helping Hands Foundation" and her webpage is: http://www.helpinghandsllc.us/ ...»

I'd at least give her a call and see if she can steer you right.

Hope this was useful, please keep us posted on how your plight goes...Best wishes, JL

There are amazing groups out there. The first that comes to mind is www.habitat.org

You can also reach out to community groups, churches, and local contractors.

Come on Hometalk community--anyone want to jump in and give Andra a hand?
