Antique Egg Crate Pendant Light

Converting an antique egg crate into a unique pendant light is so simple, and adds instant character to a room.
These pendant light kits are available at all home improvement stores. They are intended to be used with interchangeable glass shades, but you can really use them to convert many other objects into "shades" as well. They're also great because the length is customizable.
To add some additional character to the boring cord, I wrapped manila rope around it. It was a twisted cord, so all you need to do is untwist the three parts a bit,
thread it onto the cord, and continuing untwisting and re-twisting the rope around the cord until you've reached the top.
Take two of the pieces and make a knot around the cord with the third piece.
For the egg crate, I did a simple wash with 1 part white chalk paint with 3 parts water.
Using a wash instead of straight paint allows for some of the wood grain and the original printing to show through.
There's no doubt it will change the feel of your room, and provide for a nice conversation piece as well!
