After debating over using tile, paint, wood, etc., to dress it up, we opted for a layered venetian plaster design, which ties in with the venetian plaster on the family room walls. Just finished and ready for base moulding.
First of 3 layers of Venetian Plaster applied before starting design. It dries lighter.
Layer 1 of design taped and drawn after base coats were applied.
First layer dry. Plaster was lightened using white acrylic paint.
2nd layer taped and drawn
2nd layer applied, but not yet dry. This layer was not colored, just layering darkens a bit.
2nd layer dry
3rd layer taped off and cut
3rd & final layer complete. This layer was darkened using black acrylic paint. Ready for base mold
