tsp and warm water/ follow directions on bag (you can get at hardware store) and wear gloves or your nails will get "softened"
  • I found the best stuff at Dollar Tree-as seen on tv Totally Awesome cleaner. Not the dollar tree brand but in a opaque bottle and it is concentrated. it removes oil and diesel fuel out of my hubby's clothes and I just did a kitchen renovation where I used it to remove years of grease and gunk off the cabinets and the hood vent. use it full strength and not a lot and let it run down. Warm wet rag to keep rubbing and wiping. It is strong smelling so do not inhale too long. good luck

@The Garden Frog with C Renee This is available on line too and on review said "can get it at those everything stores". Also, some cautioned that ventilation is needed. However, I like to pour on a cloth and wipe instead of spraying.

Elbow grease! Sorry, but I could not pass up that smarty comment! HA! I see all those white kitchens on HT and I think, "Am I the only person in the world whose kitchen gets gunky?" I would love to have my cabinets painted...not white...but I am too old to spend a month scrubbing down the cabinets to get someone to paint them! HA!

I have refinished/cleaned a lot of furniture, cabinets and house trim and Always us Murphy's Oil Soap. You can buy it at any grocery store in the cleaning aisle. It smells great, no toxic fumes and really does the job! I also use a terry cloth so that I have some texture to really remove the grime.

I have done this on farm house cabinets that were quite dirty/greasy. I merely used dish soap (Dawn or other grease cutting kinds work best)...not dishwasher soap ;-) Put a LOT of it in some very hot water, get your rubber gloves on and wash till it doesn't feel greasy and sticky anymore. Change water/soap often. Then rinse. Simple but it worked. The secret to grease removal is often the hottest water you can tolerate ;-)

1/3 C. Dawn liquid, 1/3 C. TSP, (Trisodium Phosphate) 1 gallon hot water, gloves! Mix everything up really well, (except the gloves). Make sure to rinse well. Dry with a clean rag, and you may need to repeat if the cabinets are really bad. It works like magic. You can get the TSP in any hardware store, maybe even Walmart or Kmart! I was given this tip by a wood refinisher.

I cleaned my cabinets with 409

@Delores Snellen Back in the 1960s, 409 removed the paint from my trim. Maybe it's changed and no longer does that.

I have tried all the above, including taking a razor and gently sliding it over to remove what remains after doing all the above recommendations and it is still greasy/tacky!! Turning on the air conditioning helps you to forget about it until the next humid day!! I've even used a steamer with a rag, baking soda, a cabinet paste cleaner, simple green, etc. Either I have a really dirty kitchen or I'm now down to the shellac.

"Power Clean" or "Purple Power" (same thing) from an auto parts place like Autozone. Stuff is amazing! Just spray it on and crud starts running off.
