Hanging Lamp Made from Paint Stirs

Inspired by the bushel basket lamp that sells for $229 at Shades of Light, I made a hanging patio lamp using paint stirs, an old lamp shade frame, some nylon rope, and a hanging lamp kit. Total cost: $10. Savings: $219.

Hi Amanda, I used Plaid Acrylic Craft paint that I thinned with just a little water so that it becomes translucent. Michaels, Hobby Lobby and JoAnne Fabrics all carry it.

One question Seredipity, how well will this handle the moisture from out of doors? Are there light kits for indoor/outdoor?

Hi Becky, You raise a good point. I just took a look at it and I'm going to put some silicone caulk where the cord meets the top of the socket and use a rubber washer from my outdoor flood light kit at the point that the bulb meets the socket on the other end. I'm sure that they make outdoor kits but I haven't found anywhere locally that carries anything other than flood light kits which are too bulky for this project. I'll keep searching and post if I find some! Thanks!

@Beverly L - copying is allowed and even encouraged!! That's why we all share ideas. What you can't come up with on your own you can borrow from someone else. You'll find that even if you totally copy an idea you saw, you'll start to get inspiration and the more things you create the more creative you'll become!! Ya just gotta start!! ;~)

you could probably even use 2 embroidery rings if you don't have a old lamp shade skeleton

Hi Roberta, Yes, you can! I'm making one like that (drum shade style) for my studio space! Just loosen the outer ring and slide the stirs between the inner and outer rings!
