Sounds cool. I wonder if it will withstand me dropping the frying pan on it. -
now thats sounds like something I'd want to see. LeeAnn do you have any examples of that or tell me i can view these counter tops? -
Fred, I saw some recently in K+BB digital edition (July edition I believe). You can check out kbbonline.com. -
I love this idea. I'm thinking the maintenance would much less than granite countertops. -
Do you know how the cost compares to granite? I Love glass in any appliucation and all the things that can now be done with recycled glass is amazing! -
I am not sure how it performs, but I love the way it looks. Here is a link so you all can see it: http://www.glass2.com/ -

Love Glass 2---especially since it is GREEEEN!!! -
What about Concrete Countertops? They are GREEN !!! You can add any type of recycled material like a glass and when its finished, the materials are revealed. Creativity abounds when you think about adding fiber optic strands and an animation system. I've seen a countertop that when activated, gave the appearance of a soft drink being poured into a glass. When the system was off, you could not see the fiber optics. Very cool !!! We are not "experts", but know enough to be dangerous....!! -
What about durability as far as if a can falls out of cabinet? Will it crack break and then if so how easy will it be to repair. Cost? -
Cost is huge when compared to granite, i got quotes from Terrazzo once and choose to go ahead with granite for a client. I love glass but just hate the way GREEN is PRICED these days. I'd prefer concrete any day! -
@Amazing, you can do the same type of fiber optics with the glass. They say that glass will be the number one element in kitchen design of the future. The system will include glass cabinets & due to technology you can change the color of the cabinets by the back lights & you can even watch you child's ball game on the glass cabinets, like the wallpaper on your phone.@Tim, I so respect your approach, I am conveying the future trends that are sited . @It is as expensive as granite & reported to scratch but be repairable. -
I like the considerations mentioned such as color changing, etc but is it user defined in the way concrete countertops can be? Can a pro design and create a countertop, enhancing it with fiber optics or is this a "factory enhancement"? Just wondering... I remember when the tire shredding plant south of Atlanta was touted as the "GREEN" solution for garden mulch. Based upon comments I've seen here at hometalk, that idea was a bit short sighted with the subsequent leeching of tire ...» -
Stunning...next should be adding monitor capabilities so you can "touch-screen" your toast and emails! -
No, this would be ridiculously expensive & technical to install, they even project being able to move the stove top around the island with a swipe of the hand ! I go to a lot of seminars to stay on top of trends in design & this is the latest news in future kitchens. Sounds like George Jetson stuff! -
OK, so when you get it installed I'll fly right over in my suitcase car...;-) I'll be on the lookout... -
You guys let me know when you find out that planes from the Jetsons are on the market. I have been waiting for them. -
AGM Imports in Lawrenceville sells the Glass 2 & they quoted me the price was like the cost of mid-range granite. -
I just installed a nice kitchen with Glass 2..and the customers already love it..they love it because its hygenic, non porous, will not stain and can be backlit..I am a fabricator and buy it before shipping for 65 and 85 dollars a sq ft..so I tack on 50 a sq ft to fabricate it and install it..I show customers the price of the slabs and shipping in which they have to pay for...but like many mentioned..Green recyceld always cost more..if price is a concern..granite is the cheapest here in Florida...rock on Lee anne -
You to Gene!
