Upcycling an old door to a desk

I got this great door from my uncle who is restoring an old school house. With the use of my shop vac and minimal sanding, the paint came right off. I decided to just stain the door, so I applied a dark walnut stain. I have yet to find the perfect legs and have no patience, so instead of leaving the door in the garage, I placed it on top of a drop leaf table I had lying around.
The OCD kicked in, and that is when I realized that the desk was just not right with the edge of the table showing. I crossed my fingers, said a lil prayer, and sewed a skirt to hide the edge. Not too bad for someone who has NO sewing abilities, LOL!
Then the fun began, I got up at 5:30 AM the last two days and shopped one of the biggest flea markets in my area, Jake's, for goodies to place on my desk. Not only did I find useful items, but I got them all for a steal! The lovely metal card file simply had to be wiped down since it was already a great color. Then I found a fire grate that immediately screamed, "Make me into a paper holder!" The fire grate I sprayed with Muslin colored spray paint and distressed very lightly. The scale also got a good coat of spray paint due to the bad condition the metal was in. Total spent on the wonderful desk- fabric $10 (have 1 yard left to make a pillow), card file $2, fire grate $3 and the scale $5. $20 for a one of a kind desk! :)
Before the upcycle. I had to cut the top portion off due to it being beyond repair but plan on usin the glass and some of the wood for another project.
Love the piece of metal that was on the door as a repair years ago. :)
Sorry about the wonky pic but had to share my goodies.
Not much paint survived but what did has given this desk a nice chippy look. There's that $2 card file!!
Another wonky pic but this shows the fire grate that I am in love with and the wonderful rusty hinge I left on.
Ill figure out how to correct this. Not much of a computer person...
