How to Make a Chalkboard Tray

This project is part of my Trashtastic Tuesday series. I repurposed an old tray I found at Goodwill, that had burn damage, into a cute chalkboard to use as wall art in my kitchen. And I absolutely love the way it turned out!
I dry brushed the edges of the tray with white paint, and wiped the excess off with a paper towel to give it a distressed look, and to bring out the details of the carving in the metal tray.
I painted the center with four light coats of chalkboard paint, then I conditioned it by using the side of a piece of chalk all over it and wiping it off. I did this before drawing on it for the first time.
I freehanded this sketch of a mason jar with the message be full of joy. I found a picture that I used to go by for this drawing.
