What kind of sander is used on wood? And how do you paint laminate woo

I have a microwave small hutch ,not real wood but it's looks like it (cheap)shiny too,and it has a matching tv stand !all r on wheels. So... How can I paint it ? My mom bought it for me.cant get rid of it !oh yeah and a desk has the same laminate sorta kinda stuff?what is it?

Without a picture I can't be sure, but my guess is it's the typical coated wood printed paper. You can either prime it or use spray paint. I painted the cabinet in this link below using spray paint. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/-3007335

it is photographed paper on top of pressed wood. You can, as Becky states, paint it. You can use chalk paint too but I must caution you about light coats! if you try to paint on too thick you could cause the shiny printed 'wood' to buckle and come off (like a sticker). I love using spray paint and use Rustoleum's 2x spray which has many beautiful and fun colors. There again when using spray paint spray light coats and let dry in between. good luck

Annie sloan chalk paint! Can't say enough about it, no prepping just paint 2coats and then wax it , so easy!

You will need a coat of ESP (Easy Surface Preparation) WHEN DRY YOU CAN PAINT ON IT ND THE PINT WILL ADHERE!
