Creating quiet in noisy apartment

My apartment has no insulation between mine and the neighbors. I can hear their TV and they can hear mine. Any cheap ideas to block out the noise? I can sleep because my bedroom is next to their living room. I tried moving the bed around, but no help. Thanks for any suggestions.

The best thing you can do since you live in a rental is to get as many layers of material on your wall as possible. If you could find an inexpensive but decorative, thick area rug (say 5' X 7') at a thrift or consignment store and hang it on your wall, it will help to buff the noise coming from the neighboring apartment. The more you put on that wall, the better, so hang some large pictures, heavy insulated draperies, etc. If you have hardwood floors you could use a large area rug there too to absorb some of the noise. Also, if you would run a fan at night while you are trying to sleep, that would also help some. Good luck!
  • Lowe's and Home Depot sell styrofoam in 4x8' sheets which you could cover in fabric, decorate, and/ or even spray paint to tack onto the wall with command strips. This may help lessen the noise. Or as Miss Kitty suggested hang a rug, heavy blanket or even heavy drapes on the wall to help absorb. Fabric and rugs do absorb noise. good luck

@ WELL I WOULD PUT A FOAM CRATE ON THE WALL YOU KNOW THE KIND THAT GOES ON TOP OF THE MATTRESS.............HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WORKED WONDERS. JUST HANG A CURTAIN TO HIDE IT OR MOVE YOUR BED IN FRONT TO LOOK LIKE A HEADBOARD OR A BLANKET OR A RUB OR MAYBE THE NEIGHBORS CAN MOVE THE TV
