you might be able to get some more decorative bulbs...perhaps some old time styles with multiple filaments, (Edison bulbs) when these are put on a dimmer they look pretty cool.

I recently renovated two rental house bathrooms. In both, I removed the old mirror or old medicine cabinet, installed new lighting from home depot/lowes for less than $40 and hung a mirror that I purchased at TJMaxx. New paint will be required where the old cabinet was removed. Here are photos from one - the other I will blog about next week.

How about Edison bulbs. I have a couple I would like to replace too but I am having trouble finding the correct size...I do not want to patch drywall and repaint yet. We cannot get rid of the cabinets...so may build something on my own...am thinking about what to do! Will follow this post for ideas! I may frame out a piece of beadboard and add some small cabinets with a mirror above the sink with side lights...????

We have recently redone three baths in 2 different homes. It was actually much less expensive than you would think. Bought the mirror at Wal-mart for one and at Tuesday Morning for another. At both Home Depot & Lowe's they have kits that you can literally screw in to the current light socket to change out the type you have - you would have to figure that out at your store.

The Edison style light bulbs are great looking, but at almost fifty dollars it seems a waste of money on something you don't like.

Oh good, you understood what I was saying. I had one of these light fixtures (without the medicine chest attached) in our last home and had a plan to build a framed box with a piece of stained glass in the front. That idea seemed dated so I came up with a new idea.

@Becky I don't think stained glass ever goes out of style! BUT that said I have discovered the hard way that if you use a muticolored glass fixture, you get multicolored light cast all over the room...and while there are places in the home that can be really awesome and add to the ambiance....I need clear and direct light in the bathroom....I have to be able to See so I don't think I'd want stained glass in there...but otherwise a solidly cool idea...just for a different area...LOL

@ Sharron. Sorry I meant leaded glass. It being a bathroom you do need clear lighting for putting on make up.
