Ugly floor

Laura Sparks
by Laura Sparks
Redoing a room and the carpet needed to come up. This ugly vinyl tile floor was underneath and is original to the house.
Ugly Floor
I need ideas on how to make it atleast look decent. I can't afford a new floor right now. The room is going to be my craft/office and is freshly painted.

Laura, you can use a primer by Zinzer, for any surface. You will have to prep the floor, then apply the primer. Paint any color you want. You can even make a large scale stencil and paint on the floor. Then seal with a recommended amount of poly acrylic. Viola'.

You will still be able to see the relief pattern that was put in the tile, but you can make it work.

That geometric pattern on the tile is a pretty cool pattern actually. Show us a picture if you paint it. :)

@Laura Sparks there are floor paints also and i was thinking like tammy that pattern showing through on a colored floor would probably surprise you in how good it would look like embossed tin i think...if you don't think you would like it if you have a concrete slab underneath you could scrap it off and paint the concrete good luck xx

I agree with Chris aka monkey. Warm the flooring and get a garden scraper (looks like a hoe that was never bent) and scrape up that nasty flooring. It's a lot of work but worth it in the end.

If it is firmly attached, just lay new over the top. You can get fairly inexpensive stick down tile, or paint.

You could paint it or perhaps put carpet tiles down. Buy extra so if you spill you can just take up the messed up tiles and replace with new.
