Fall is in the air and it's the perfect time to create this earthy, rustic look. Using a branch from the back yard of course!
This faux-bark finish is perfect for canvas artwork, furniture (like drawer-fronts), and even focus walls.
SUPPLIES Tree branch, Wood Icing™ Textura Paste, Fissure Size and Furniture Glazes - Mud Pie, Tree Bark and Licorice. Paris Grey Chalk Paint®, rags and brushes.
Paint your surface with one or two coats of Paris Grey Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. Let dry. Brush on a liberal coat of Wood Icing™ Fissure Size, using a vertical motion.
This photo is turned sideways to catch the light, but the Fissure Size will start looking like this. Let dry. It will take awhile. Later it will create some cracks in the Textura Paste.
Use a wide tool to spread one layer of Wood Icing™ Textura Paste in a vertical motion. Skip some areas. Do NOT let dry.
Use a branch cut to about 24". Roll it side-to-side and rub it up and down. It will tear holes and create texture, and probably shed some bark, which is great. Let dry hard.
Brush on another quick coat of Fissure Size, vertically. Let dry. Brush on one coat of Paris Grey vertically, skipping areas. More cracks will appear as it dries.
Brush on a layer of Wood Icing™ Mud Pie furniture glaze. Skip areas and let dry for a bit, then wipe some back with a rag.
Brush on a layer of Wood Icing™ Tree Bark furniture glaze. Skip areas and let dry for a bit, then wipe some back with a rag. Do the same with Licorice.
Finally, wipe the tops of the texture with a clean rage to highlight them.
And there you have it - a tree bark finish so real you can hardly tell it from the real thing!

If you have created this for artwork to hang, no finish coat is required. For wall or furniture finishes, use Wood Icing™ Poly Acrylic Dull.
