Are you considering the decorative squares because you want a different looking countertop? Have you considered any of the various countertop kits and paints you apply over you existing countertop? Rustoleum has a countertop 'refinishing' kit. They also have a simple paint that'll give a one color appearance. There's a kit from Gianni. Google these and you can get details.

I would like a different look but would be afraid to try something that big. I would only like to cover the backsplash behind my cookbook.

Lori I am wondering the same thing, waiting to see what Woodbridge Environmental says.

I tiled over my yellow laminate tops with tile very easily. Make sure you measure accurately for the sink opening, though

@Cecelia do you have any before & after photos? Also, what type of tile did you use. thanks,

Hey Sharon, no photos I'm afraid, but I simply used 6x6 tiles from Home Depot and 4x4 for the back splash and bull nose. Used sanded grout as it gave a nice texture to the tile. Don't be afraid of this. I didn't pre sand. If your countertop is uneven, just use extra set under those tiles to level the surface. Only problem I had was the sink area, getting the fit right. Be sure to measure twice....I also used the left over 4x4 to make a chair rail to tie the look throughout the room. I did a bottom and top frame around those tiles with quarter round.
