Pallet Potting Bench

Hubby's first big project with reclaimed pallet wood. He surprised me with it one day when I returned home from work!
P.S. The turquoise box is metal and was an ugly brown. It was my first attempt at homemade chalk paint. Finished off with Tudor Brown Briwax.

Do you have a recipe for the paint? Mine was too gritty and dried too quick...

Hi Julie - I apologize for the late response, crazy here lately.... I can't seem to find the paint recipe, but I found it online - it uses plaster of Paris. I only mixed a small amount for such a small project. I used turquoise craft paint. It did a great job on the metal. I don't remember it being gritty - though I did have that on a small wood bench I tried later. I thought perhaps I didn't sand it quite enough. My absolute favorite thing for finishing anything is Briwax, basically a stained wax (also comes in clear). It's a little pricey, ours costs about $15+/- a can on Amazon, but it goes a long way. And it's still less than the wax they sell with chalk paint. We love it; no matter how rough something is, it becomes a wonderful texture after applying the Briwax. Here's a link to show what an old piece of driftwood looked like after Briwax. The website is for a distributor, but he has a lot of interesting articles. http://briwax.wordpress.com/2011/07/25/how-to-finish-the-finish-with-briwax/ Good luck! I know sometimes DIY projects can be frustrating, but there are a lot of great ideas out there - I know because I "steal" them all the time! :D
