How to Make a Headboard Out of a Mantel

When remodeling our Master Bedroom earlier this year, we knew we wanted to break up the traditional bedroom suite and go for a more unique style of headboard. One that had classic bones and a commanding presence. The answer was an old recycled mantel! We found it on CraigsList for $50, filled in the middle with plywood, covered the plywood with a draped twin sheet, added some wooden block "feet", and gave it some TLC and a fresh coat of paint. We couldn't be more pleased! To read more about the process, visit: http://kristinsveranda.com/vignettes/2012/03...

What a clever idea! You now have an awesome headboard, a design piece, and a place for bedside lamps and other design accents. Great job!

Holy cow! I can't believe you found a mantel for $50 on Craig's list. You lucky, lucky girl!! You've done a great job with this; it certainly has to be the focal point of your bedroom.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! If by chance it went in front of plug you could simply allow for an extension cord for lamps!

I have one as well. I left mine open though and keep a cd player there and listen to audio books and meditations in bed.

Besides the mantle, love that the wall paper and sheets are such a good combination. Find the word rather 'twee' though and I would say nowadays, old fashioned. (Seems to me they've been around for ever).
