My favorite seating area

Who doesn't love an Adirondack chair? This set of Caribbean blue chairs is the second set that we've built. We got simple plans from the internet (free!) and made them using plain pine lumber. Easy, easy, easy! The first set we built I painted in a bright royal blue - kind of like the Pacific ocean! But I knew I needed time in the Caribbean this time around. Our patio is very comfortable and a wonderful place to spend the evening with friends. We light our torches and firepit and sometimes pretend we're contestants on Survivor!

Up from the tumbled paver patio we installed is our deck. This is our dining area during the summer months. The deck is surrounded by Aspens and Lilacs and is very private and quiet. Unfortunately, the deck is failing and will be need to be removed in the next few years. We're planning on extending the paver patio and incorporate a bubbling fountain and even thinking about putting in a sandbox/small play fort for our grandkids in the corner of the patio. What do you think?

The guys who installed our patio just left this weird unfinished edge so we got flagstone striptone and created a tiny little planting "trough". It has a drip lin...

Coffee is good but there's nothing like a nice glass of vino while sitting out there!

Your seating area turned out very nicely, but I must add, the landscaping intensifies the lure to sit and enjoy.

Haha, well I AM a landscape designer but you know that old saying about the Cobbler's kid's shoes! I'm more of a plant collector. My yard is a plant orphanage of sorts!

No wonder your yard has good design!! I love the thought of a plant orphanage! And yes, I know the old saying. I've known all sorts of designers, been in their homes and heard them all say either they couldn't decide between using the latest style or had run out of energy by the time they got home.

Hi Deborah! You can find them almost anywhere online. These were from some plans I found years ago online and couldn't possibly find the exact ones now but I did find a set here: http://www.aaadirondackchairs.com . We used just plan old cheap pine and I think all four were under under 100 bucks total. I primed them and then painted them and then I also keep them ...»
covered during the winter. They are starting to show some wear but it's easy enough to replace a board or two if needed. Since making ours we've found that you can buy unfinished adirondack chairs from a few places for a little more but let me tell you, the scale of these babies are substantial. Nothing like what you'd find at JoAnn's. As a matter of fact, the very first one we built years ago (this is our second set), we built in the basement and realized after building it, couldn't get it through the door!

    And Haskell.....now you're talking!!!

Hi Diana - google "free adirondack chair plans" and you'll get a ton of hits. Here is just one I found for you: http://www.aaadirondackchairs.com. And really, no worries for the power tools - a good jigsaw and circular saw is all you need. Well, those and a power screw driver. Lots of screws. And I countersunk ours and then went back to fill with wood putty. I'm ...»
going to be posting more on the chairs next Tuesday on my Blog as part of "Crazy for Color" Link party. Pop in for a visit!

Yea, they're not the comfy-ist! And I just don't think they look all that great with a cushion on them. But they're easy to build and on the budget which is why I think we've built two sets of them! Sigh...one of these days I'll have some luxurious overstuffed patio furniture to relax out on!! Thanks for commenting!
