DIY Closet System

Ikea Rast dressers used as the base for built-in dressers in a closet.
Built-in adjustable shelves add extra shelving and flexibility.
Two Ikea Rast dressers were secured into studs on each side of the wall. To add shelving above the dressers, a Kreg Jig was used to secure the vertical walls of the shelves to the dresser top. Before adding the shelves, a 3/4" cleat was secured to the wall and sides of the shelf. Each shelf is secured to the cleat using a nail gun.

To create adjustable shelving a peg board was used to drill the holes on the insides of each plywood vertical shelf.

Yes, my daughters shared a closet also...as well as the one time ownership of an older cousin-- because my daughters were one year apart they often shared clothes. Thank goodness for hand me downs. Still a great use of space. We are planning 2 closet upgrades in our spare bedrooms this winter- I never understood why such large space yet such tiny doors. lolll So newer wider doors to allow for complete access. You did a great job.
  • Nice job, I don't see the second dresser?

It was hard to get a full shot, but the last picture shows a lite bit of the secon dresser. They were installed on top of each other and screwed into the studs. I hope this helps.
