I have Frigidaire upright model FFU21F5HWB. It works well for 4 to 5 days when I plug it in. Then is doesn't cool the food. I tried to unplug it and keep the door open for one night, and then plug it next day morning it works well for 4 to 5 more days and then same problem. I don't understand what could be the problem?

  • Sounds as though the freeze stat is failing. There is several things that can be causing this. The first thing to check is to see if the coil located under or behind the freezer is clean. Dust tends to build up on this preventing enough air to flow over and around. This results in a frozen coil. Once that happens all cooling within the freezer stops. Simply use a vacuum to clean off once the ice melts. The next thing that can be causing failure is a small fan that blows the air over the same coil. If the fan is stopping it also will allow the freezer to stop. Not enough air over the coil is the same is having it plugged with dust. If the freezer stops working, do not unplug check to see if the fan is running. If not, its a simple replacement part that you can get on line. Another reason why it may not be working as it should is that there is a small device behind the panel near the bottom of the freezer. This device is designed to trigger a auto defrost cycle. Over time these devices can go bad. The result is the device sticks and does not allow the freezer to come out of auto defrost. Thus warming up the freezer. By unplugging the freezer and allowing things to settle then plugging back in tends to reset this device until after a few days it fails again. This also is a pretty easy repair. Two small wires and a few screws is all it takes to replace. Search on line for the manual and check Utube for instructions on how to change.
