Yard Garden

I used old rusty tractor or cut out wheels for planters. I've had many say they like the idea of recycling. I have seen other great ideas on this website. Patti~ from Prineville Oregon.

That is a great recycling idea, and it looks cool.

They seem to get better every year. They will be very full in another week or so. Summer came on a little late but now catching up:) Thanks for the comments.

What a great idea Patti! Love the rusted look! The only thing I have ever used these for are fire pits.

Patti - in looking at these rims AGAIN - just where do you get something that size and what kind of equipment uses a rim w/a tire that big?? This had to come off an enormous piece of construction equipment I'd think????

The ones I have are old tractor wheels that were sitting around the back forty of a ranch. I also think you could use old Semi wheels with the centers cut out of them. They are not that easy to find but they are out there! We also have a steel yard in the area where people throw all kinds of things away, another place to look if you have one in your area. Happy Hunting....

@Becky - great minds work alike - guess that's why we hang around the same places together. I'm either following right behind you or you're hot on my heels!! LOL

Patti - an another observation here . . . .(It takes me awhile sometimes lol) but I bet those things weigh a ton too - before soil & plants. Probably would be a 2 man job to load those babys. Now, my husband is a pretty indulgent guy when it comes to my whimseys & quirkiness but I think this ...»

is one I'd best let you have all the glory in and I'll just admire from afar!! Keep the great ideas coming!!

I have used the actual tractor tires off the rims to make a flower garden. Tires can be painted. Helps to keep tires out of land fills!

Do you line them with anything before putting the soil in?

Great up cycle and great idea. Tire stores and auto wrecking yards are two other places to look.

Tractor rims also make great fire pits. Dig it down into the ground and you have an instant campground fire pit!!

They don't have to end up in junk yards or landfills. They can be used to beautify the landscape. Great idea!

They are not lined with anything, these are big enough you could put some nice grasses or larger taller plants in them. I have a couple more I am working on....Also a good way to have plants flowers without dogs or other animals getting into them...
