Blue interiors

Someone asked me yesterday about using Blue as an interior design color. Most people I think perceive blue to be a cold color, however I much prefer the term 'cool'. I have written an article, with some nice examples of how blue can be used for interior design. One interesting aspect is the kitchen. I would like to know how many folks here think the 'Blue Kitchen' is unpleasant or cold.

My kitchen has been red for over ten years. I'm ready for a change and might consider blue. I did paint my guestroom blue. I actualy painted it three times before I got the shade of blue pleasing to my eye. The lower wall was done in white bead board, the blue above. Now it looks like a "beach house". I love it!

Hi Judy, love the idea of the white bead boards with blue above. Yeah, it is certain a great way to create that 'Beach House' feel. To help you, I have a guide on 'Painting Walls Different Colors' - it should give you some good ideas on how to mix and match colors for different walls in the same room. I've done the same in my living room using the techniques and it is rather nice - http://hometipster.com/how-to-paint-walls-di...

Hope that helps. Have a great day :) Graham

Blue...I've always said it was my favorite color and my last home had shades of blue in every room, from carpet to walls to furniture-except the kitchen. Why? I don't know, it just didn't seem right. I like the structure of the kitchen you featured, but it almost seems overwhelming in blue. I think the metal in the kitchen gives it a sterile feeling. Had the blue been paired with wood or white-even a nice ceramic floor it would have an entirely different feel. But, that's just me-and ...»
you did ask....lol I appreciated the link to "how to paint" as well. Thanks for sharing, Graham....Dee

To me a blue kitchen says, "home". I've always had blue in my kitchen and love to display blue and white dishes. It is a cool color but it gives a warm feeling. I love blue and white in any room.

Hi Dee - I have to admit I wasn't overly keen on the Steel Chairs they used, but the rest of the kitchen I really liked. I like your idea of a wood floor, but sometime wood in a kitchen can cause problems due to the heat and humidity. Glad you like the link :) Have a great day. Graham

Hi Donna - I must admit Blue is my favorite color and I've never found it cold as some people suggest. I do prefer subtle shades - pastels mainly, due to my love of contemporary and even minimal interiors. Have a great day. Graham.

Our kitchen is cobalt blue and I love it. The cabinets are medium/dark stained maple. I'd share a picture but the only one I have that really shows the room is old and the cabinets weren't all installed yet. I'll try and remember to take one tomorrow if you'd like to see it.

I agree with Donna, though it's a cool color it gives off a warm feeling.

As for the blue rooms you shared Graham, the only one I liked was the kitchen. WOW that's an ...»

awesome kitchen. I don't care for the style of chairs, but like the color with the blue though. They look out of place where they were setting too. They don't relate to the room at all.

Hi Becky. Sure I would agree, the chairs are not the nicest feature, but wow that kitchen is just to die for. I really like the sound of your kitchen and if you do get a chance to take a photo and post it here I'd love to see it. Have a great day! Graham

Will do when I get hubby's stuff cleared out. He came home late last night from a long weekend away umpiring and left his stuff in the kitchen. After working in extreme heat for three days I told him to just leave it, I'd take care of it today why he was at his regular job. I've been busy upstairs with laundry and other house chores and have yet taken the time to get it picture ready.
