  • To keep the light in and the eyes out, there are frosting films that can be purchased at most home centers where they sell wall paper. These films will allow light in, but will keep prying eyes out. Also sheer curtains will work. With the darker colors in the room, you will want to have as much natural light in during the day to keep things looking good without having to turn on lamps.

save money and frost them yourself!!!!....Krylon makes a frost in a can and I love it!!!..i have gone wild frosting glass items and using paint tape/washi tape to make designs, depending on how much privacy u need...use stencils....contact paper comes in so many designs and colors now...even Frosted!!!...use Fabric stiffener/plain old starch and put matching fabric on the panes...peel off when bored...btw, none of these ideas are permanent...frosting in a can comes off with acetone nail polish remover!!!!...and all of these will let glorious light into your bedroom!!!....

@Jim L Okay, I've been taken to task for making the "unkind" remarks about this bedroom. I did not mean to appear as a "douche" and Cheryl said nor did I mean to be "rude? as someone else stated. There are ways to make a room more attractive just by moving furniture and some other inexpensive and easy "tricks". I have clients who need a few touches "here and there" to make things more comfortable and more easily usable. Please accept my apology. Previously I have made my comments about painted furniture "positive" and also attempted to add a little humor. In the future, IF I comment, I will choose my words more carefully.

I like curtains hung on rings that easily slide opened and closed. This way you have the option of complete privacy when you want it, and light when you don't.

One more thing: frosting the panes will completely obscure the outside view which adds to a room greatly (in my opinion).

There is a mirror film that is completely private during the day, but at night it is see through.. That might be an option for you plus it will cut down on heat coming through the windows.

Hang a lace panel on each door. Pretty from the outside, but all it lets in is light.

We had a French door in our powder room for light and we just frosted the windows. There is a stick on film you can buy from Home Depot . Also another idea would be to hang a heavy curtain over top of the door that you can pull onto a tieback and then you have saved the view and still get privacy.

You could hang a curtain rod higher and wider than the doors and hand a drape that can be closed for privacy. We did this for our front door that had a lot of glass and we wanted privacy.

Curtain rods top and bottom of the doors. Curtains made out of sail cloth, allow light to come in with privacy. They with have a classy yet organic vibe.

    what
  • Jan Jan on Sep 08, 2014
sorry clicked too soon. Whatever you do to the French doors I would also do the same application to the windows

I used frosted window cling and it is wonderful! Lots of patterns online! No holes no sticky, easy to change!
  • Marshapeacock Marshapeacock on Sep 08, 2014
I agree with Jan to make the french doors match the other windows. Why not have bamboo blinds on the french doors as well. They can be mounted high enough not to effect the function of the door or view to the outside.

Well it wouldn't look good to put a pop of color there and not have it somewhere else in the room.....I would maybe put off white or tan up there to match the rest of the room or if you do want to go with a color you could add tangerine on the door, a couple of tangerine pillows (either the color or embroidery in tangerine, lace in tangerine)....a couple more places wouldn't hurt either.

I had French doors on my master bedroom. I took lace curtains with the tightest pattern and put 4 panels on each door. It let light in, but no one could see through them.

Match to your windows!!! That way you can still enjoy your view!!!

FYI...bamboo blinds maybe great for light filtering, but they don't do much for privacy especially at night. If you have lights on in a room, they become very transparent. I would use a material that isn't see through, and possibly choose an accent color from your bedspread, and go with that for your material. Sometimes you can even get away with purchasing twin size top sheets, which for the most part usually have a hem at the top where you could easily slide a curtain rod through to give you a drape effect over your doors, or go a step further and hem the bottoms as well. and slide another rod through that end, and attached it to bottom of door, then if you want a bit more light in the room during the day, you could just belt the middle of the material with some type of a tie to give it an hour glass effect, and then of course when you take tie off, you will have privacy again.

That's my hardest decision, what color curtains
  • MARY CHRISTINA MARY CHRISTINA on Sep 08, 2014
I Google (Cottage Chic curtain ideas for french doors) you will find great ideas on what to do. It will be hard to decide though. Good luck!!!!!

    How about a folding screen
  • Kes Kes on Sep 08, 2014
The French doors has a screen on the outside. I was thinking of maybechanging that to make it darker

We have French doors in our bedroom also. I have room darkening curtains hanging from near the ceiling with enough room at the sides to stack the curtains back when we want those doors open. However, if you want to repeat the bamboo, the privacy window cling is wonderful. We did that on our bathroom window and love it. It allows light, but no vision through it.

We have the same, that way you can pull them back at anytime. Love mine!
  • Linda Jung Linda Jung on Sep 09, 2014
What you have on the windows, put the same thing on the French Doors.
  • Lisa B. Lisa B. on Jun 02, 2015
I would get a matching bamboo blind with a blackout liner. That way you'd have a consistent look and the privacy that you are looking for. A frosted vinyl is another option if you don't mind losing the view.
