We rebuilt our grape arbor/gazebo...

Our 50 ft. grape arbor was a rusted mess. We rebuilt it using 4x4s and a gazebo. What should we do with the pathway/"floor"? We're thinking of some sort of pavers or flagstone. More details: http://diyshowoff.com/2012/01/01/diy-show-of...

How about bluestone? I think a natural stone would be perfect in that setting. Oh, and now I want my own grape arbor!!!

Oh sorry, I forgot to answer your question about the floor. I like the idea of natural stone or if you can find enough logs to cut log stepping stones.

Wow, that looks like a major project, but the new gazebo is beautiful. I love the crunch of pea gravel under foot in a space like that.

How did you manage the transfer of the grape vines without losing them? Beautiful job!

Love the ideas. I have considered pea gravel too - much easier job! ;) Kelly - bluestone/flagstone...I love that look! IBecky1 - I recently saw a picture of wood slices used as a path and it was gorgeous! Becky2, there are pictures of the process in my post linked above, but we basically pulled them over to one side as we worked in sections. Thankfully we didn't lose any!

Roeshel, I probably saw that same picture.

We live on part of an old tree farm and have lost two dozen pine trees so we're going to use the trunks to make stepping "stones" to cover the area between plantings in the area between our home and sidewalk along with ground cover between the stepping "stones". It's large so we've never gotten enough ground cover to take over. We're hoping this works since there will be a whole lot less space to fill in.

Oh, Becky! Sorry about your pine trees! But, I can't wait to see it! We had to cut down some dead trees this year too but not enough to cover underneath the grape arbor.

I love this! And the idea of a natural stone is just perfect!! You and your amazing spaces, Roeshel. Happy to see you're taking a break from the rental. :)

Thank you Roeshel. It just makes us sick since we are both tree lovers. That's one thing that drew us to this country neighborhood.

My partner built a beautiful patio behind a friend's restaurant, using various sized rectangles of blue stone. He thought that crazy paving, would look too untidy, and might not work for chairs and tables. He built low walls to contain earth for surrounding plants.

I also like the idea of natural stone. Stone that's in the area.

Just a thought. Noticing how the drape is blowing, attach small bit of magnet to the hems, so they 'stick' to the metal instead of blowing in your wine!
