is there a way to darken the stain of my maple cabinets
our kitchen cabinets are maple with a clear finish they look wishy washy and I would love to darken then but I don't really want to use paint if I can use stain! any help would be appreciated
One thing I tried recently was taking off a clear finish with laquer thinner. I just brushed it on, waited, and wiped it off. Then I stained the wood underneath. I'm not sure if it's what a professional would recommend, but it worked for me. The only other thing I'd try is actual paint stripper and some sanding before re staining the cabinets. Good luck!
Su, this can be done, but you must properly clean and prep the cabinets prior to doing any kind of refinishing project. While Meridian used lacquer thinner, I would steer clear of using this very flammable chemical. The fumes can easily ignite causing a flash fire.

be enough to allow for the cabinet to take on another stain color. Be sure to try this on the inside of the door before you attempt to do any on the outside. It may take a few colors of stain to achieve the look your going for. Once done, a coating of sealer should do the trick. Just be sure to follow the directions carefully when using the sealer so you end up with a professional look once done.
