The Power of White

When we bought this fixer upper last November everything was dark . Dark paneled walls, beige (yellowing) walls, dark stone (not nice stone or I would have left it for sure) fireplace, it really didn't show well. I decided this room needed WHITE as it's primary color. It's a cottage style home almost 100 years old. It really needed a little breath of fresh air (or a whole lot of fresh air, literally..but I digress).
The walls got 3 fresh coats of white paint. The stone fireplace was painted, pieces of furniture were painted, and then the last step was the white slip covers that just arrived yesterday.
From 60-70's Ski Lodge - to 2014 light Cottage look - oh the power of white !
It's also a tiny room - so being mostly monotone actually "opens" it up!

I love it and am trying to do the same thing to my "cottage". My question is, do you use the same white paint color on both furniture and walls? Do you vary sheens?
  • Hi EK - no I used Behr for the walls - sorry I don't have the color number ( we've used so many different ones in this house I've lost track ) and for furniture I normally only use Annie SLoan chalk paint ( pure white ) thanks !
