I filmed this on our back porch last fall. He is a small bull and not really into it. They can get extremely loud and long. There were two female near by so I stopped filming to give them privacy. Our puppy is barking in the background.
I Never would have believed that sound was a mammel and not a Bird! That is just awesome thanks! Oh and no wonder the dog is barking, it probably hurts his ears....LOL
That is very cool. What a sight to see - you are so lucky. The main animal, well reptile actually, in my garden is the King Cobra. I end up catching about 10 a year and then hike up to the local jungle and release them. Can't bear to kill anything.
@ Dee W yes, he is calling to the females. This starts late August in the early evenings throughout the night and ends early December. Our autumn nights are wonderfully noisy!
@Hometipster....KING COBRAS? where exactly are you living? that would give me a heart attack, straight up! They'd just find me laying in the yard...LOL
WOW! a great horned owl? My Sis and her hubby just moved to KY and so I have been trying to help her get interested in the birds...she said they had three owls for several nights and they came out during the day as well...one landed right next to her upper deck while she was having coffee...she was thrilled, but not knowledgable enough to know what kind of owl....I'd like to see ANY kind of owl myself...although I did have a Hawk land in my yard not five feet from me and he was BEAUTIFUL! scary....but really gorgeous!
@KMS Woodworks thanks for sharing...wow! I would want to get in the house too. We have mountain lions here too but so far I haven't see one, or heard one.
We insist that all of our dogs are in by dark...we have heard them as early as 8 or 9 at night when it is just getting dark...but most of the time it is about 2 or 3 in the morning. I've tried to record it but by the time I get up get the camera etc...they have moved on or stopped crying. They seem to take a small game trail between my house and my direct neighbors so they are only 20 to 30 yards away.
I saw them several times as a child up on Mt Shasta, Big Bear and Baldy....Little did I know how lucky we were that they were wary of people at that point....we were all small grade school and below and they would come close...Last one I saw, picnicing with mom up on Shasta the game warden came by to tell her one had been spotted, and as he stood there talking...it came over a ridge directly over where we were picnicing next to the water... we packed up and went home...
