Old Wine Racks

I have 2 of these that have been sitting in my basement for years. I need ideas as to what to do with them. Originally I wanted to build a bar island for the house and flank them on each side, shelving in middle but lack of space confines me. Soooo....I need more ideas. My parents just hung them on the wall.....too normal for me.

Ideas welcome. I am new at this so go easy on me. Thank you for taking the time to consider :)

Ooh, those have such potential! I'm curious to see what all the creative people say. The first thing that came to mind was a planter of some kind. Too bad the bar island idea won't work- that sounds awesome!

Really Love the Bar island idea! If it won't work in the kitchen or dining room maybe it would work in the den/great room area? An entertainment bar...with a mini fringe under the middle and shelves with cocktail glasses / wine glasses/an ice bucket etc...above...?

Ok...Not enough space for an ISLAND bar....but what about a rotating coffee table bar? I mean 1) a rotating wooden platform of the lazy susan kind but 2) Big enough to put these on and secure them Back to back and 3) a second "lazy susan piece on top to hold your drinks once they were poured...coffee table wine storage...LOL the "lazy susan' pieces don't have to be round...they just have to have a "centered" ball bearing ring mounted on the bottom so the whole unit will rotate....

The first thing that came to my mind was to leave them just the way they are! Do not dare redo them with paint! Hang in the bathroom and use to hold rolled towels, magazines; cut out a liner of thin, flexible plastic like that found in cheap cutting boards (comes in various colors too) and then store toilet items such as hair spray, shaving cream, curling irons, etc. in them.

OK ladies.... I did want to use them as wine racks. I can post pics of the area I want or intended to use them. Our house is small Cape Cod, so I don't have a den or any extra rooms. It's your basic open layout kitchen/dining room. We cut a peek through window over the stove area and on the other side was the envisioned bar. Now just holds a 2 seater bistro glass table. The wine racks are big and chunky. 30x18x12 and heavy suckers. Thank you for all the ideas so far...keep 'em coming. please

I've come up with a couple ideas of how to use the two that would take up less space than your original plan. Both are to be placed on the floor against the wall, possibly in your dining area. I used a spec drawing of a cabinet like yours to draw you a couple pictures to give you an idea of what they could look like. ...»

The first would give you a wine storage counsel measuring approximately 35 inches tall (includes top piece and 4.25 inch curtain finials used as feet), 36 inches wide and twelve inches deep.
The second counsel would measure approximately 32 inches wide (includes side pieces and base trim at bottom and the top of the cabinet) and 37 inches high (includes thickness of top) and 13 inches deep (includes base trim).

Thank you Sharron. I enjoy drawing using MS Paint. I wish I had a CAD program. Too expensive. These were fairly easy since I used spec drawings of the cabinets. That's why the perspective is a bit off.

you could always put them back to back & on wheels, to keep them from overtaking a room.

If you have limited space, perhaps you need to rehome them instead of repurposing them. There are a lot of people who might love to have them and use them for just what they were intended. ??? Maybe someone has something they want to swap with you?
